Position Summary

As part of the Workplace Health & Safety (WH&S) leadership team, the Regional Manager—Health, Safety and Prevention (HSP) is responsible for aligning WH&S services with Northern Health’s strategic and operational plans. Meeting the goals of a customer responsive service, the Manager will collaborate with leadership groups of client portfolios to ensure that the service and business issues are understood, supported and sustainable.

The Regional Manager HSP leads the advisory services for workplace health and safety practices and regulatory compliance, working with the team to manage, monitor and improve the health and safety standards and culture in the workplace. The Regional Manager HSP is responsible and accountable for promoting a safety culture and improving safety performance, including identifying existing safety deficiencies and necessary corrective action, and safety training needs.
 
Qualifications

Master’s degree in a relevant discipline plus a minimum of seven (7) years’ recent, related experience in progressively more complex management/leadership roles in a large multi-union environment, including experience influencing system level change by working with multiple stakeholders;
Or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

- Demonstrated ability to analyze data/results and processes to identify potential health, safety and prevention concerns and conduct appropriate analyses.
- Demonstrated ability to lead improvements, projects and change involving multiple stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to provide a customer-focused approach to service delivery.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret, evaluate, and apply regulations, policies and procedures to a variety of work situations with knowledge of the Worker’s Compensation Act (WCA) and regulations, and other applicable legislation.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Human Resources (HR) best practices and principles in HR management, and occupational health and safety.
- Demonstrated ability to independently identify issues, plan improvements, measure success, continue improvement and monitor/sustain.
- Demonstrated knowledge of relevant legislation and principles of management, hospital committee structure, conflict management and resolution, system needs analysis and organizational assessment.
- Ability to use tact and discretion in dealing with various levels of the organization and external partners.
- Demonstrated computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office software (e.g. Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook), and patient / employee information systems.
- Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Demonstrated commitment to the safety of co-workers and patients.
- Ability to apply conflict management skills and judgment to facilitate consensus, persuade/negotiate effectively, and to implement service/organizational change and transition both internally and externally to the organization.
- Knowledge of contemporary and best practice approaches in injury prevention and occupational health and wellness.
