PROGRAM ASSISTANT, PSYCHIATRY

Position Summary

Northern Health is looking for an experienced, highly efficient, and self-directed Program Assistant to join our Psychiatry department.

In accordance with the established mission, vision, values, and strategic priorities of Northern Health, and under the general supervision of Manager or designate, this position performs clerical duties related to the acute in-patient unit. The majority of the duties will be performed independently and require initiative when setting priorities. This position will take a lead role in corresponding Mental Health & Substance Use protocols and legal issues. The ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing is essential.

Qualifications

• Grade 12.
• Completion of a one year recognized business/secretarial program, preferably supplemented by recognized courses in medical stenography.
• Three (3) years recent related experience preferably in the healthcare industry.
• Must have computer skills with knowledge of MS Word, MS Excel, Windows, Desktop Publishing, ESP.
• Has Personal Safety Training certificate (or is willing to obtain) at level considered appropriate for clerical staff.

• Ability to type 45 w.p.m.
• Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
• Ability to operate related equipment.
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships.
• Ability to manage confidential information.

• Ability to interact appropriately with people who have a variety of mental disorders.
