Are you interested in an opportunity to grow professionally within a positive and progressive culture? Northern Health is seeking an Indigenous Employment and Career Advisor to join our Indigenous Health department.

As a member of Indigenous Health and Indigenous recruitment and retention team, the Indigenous Employment and Career Advisor, provides Indigenous staff across the Northern Health region and external Indigenous applicants with guidance and support for applications to NH, job readiness, and coaching to candidates with the aim of increasing Indigenous recruitment and retention in the Northern Health workforce. Working collaboratively with the Recruitment team and with other staff in Human Resources, the Indigenous Employment and Career Advisor supports Northern Health’s workforce needs through the development of career pathways and by enabling Indigenous applicants and employees to create, refine and realize development and career goals that are informed by and aligned with these pathways and their long-term employment aspirations within NH. The Advisor communicates with Indigenous communities and organizations, Northern Health practice environments and administrative departments, with the goal of supporting learning, career development, and developing Indigenous recruitment and retention opportunities in the Northern Health region.

Starting salary will be approximately from $76,111 to $95,138 and will be based on education, training, experience, and salaries of similar positions.

Qualifications

• Education, training, and experience equivalent to a baccalaureate degree in a related area such as Human Resources, Business Administration, and a minimum of (3) years related experience working with Indigenous communities/nations and Indigenous job seekers, recruiting, supporting employment skills or coaching.

• Knowledge and understanding of cultural practices and Indigenous ways of knowing and being is an asset in this role.
• Pursuant to section 41 of the British Columbia Human Rights Code, preference will be given to applicants of Indigenous ancestry.

Skills and Abilities:
• Demonstrated knowledge of Indigenous communities, Métis Chartered communities and Indigenous employment and training resources in the Northern Health region and demonstrated skills in the area of addressing cultural safety, anti-Indigenous racism, and respect in the workplace.
• Demonstrated knowledge of employment issues impacting Indigenous peoples.
• Demonstrated coaching, facilitation, mentor, and motivation skills.
• Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain professional relationships.
• Demonstrated oral communication skills, facilitation skills, conflict resolutions skills, public speaking ability and active listening skills.
• Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective working relationships and to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Chartered communities and external partners to create results.
• Ability to analyse and problem solve.
• Awareness and knowledge of Indigenous recruitment and retention practices.
• Knowledge of current employment and labor acts and regulations and applicable collective agreements.
• Ability to be self-directed, work independently and collaboratively with others and as part of a team.
• Ability to organize and prioritize work and balance multiple activities.
• Ability to anticipate and respond to changing priorities or unforeseen opportunities.
• Willingness to travel.
• Valid Drivers’ license and personal vehicle to facilitate travel to communities in Northern Health
• Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
