SPECIALTY EDUCATION, REGISTERED NURSE (RN), EMERGENCY

We are seeking a motivated Registered Nurse with a dedication for delivering compassionate patient care to join our team in the Emergency department at Ksyen Regional Hospital.

Provides and coordinates nursing care with current standards of nursing practice and the Clinical Specialty of Critical Care & Emergency Care Nursing. Clinical experience to independently work in Emergency is required.

Northern Health Regional Emergency Training Program Details: The Northern Health Regional Emergency Department Education Program (REDEP) utilizes a standardized, evidence informed on-line curriculum offered by Elsevier, called Emergency Nursing Orientation (ENO). REDEP combines Elsevier's ENO online curriculum with a skills/simulation lab and clinical practicum to prepare registered nurses to provide safe and competent emergency nursing care, at a novice level.  
• There are 10 training positions available for 2025/2026.
• Northern Health provides placement support and funding for tuition, textbooks, and travel expenses for clinical placements, as required
• Successful candidates may be required complete pre-requisite courses through part-time distance education, on their own time, prior to assuming this position
• Learners should expect to make a 4-6 month commitment for this education, which includes online and in-person learning
• Additional study time, outside of scheduled hours, will be required to successfully complete the program
• Must have completed Heart and Stroke BLS in the last 6 months
• Flexibility for practicums is necessary
• Prior experience on an acute care ward (i.e. medical/surgical) preferred
• Current BLS certification within a year is mandatory prior to the skills/simulation
• Preference for participants who have completed an electrocardiogram (ECG) course prior to beginning REDEP.
• Applicants must successfully complete the education program prior to working in the department
• Upon successful completion of the education program, Northern Health requires an eighteen (18) month return of service in a regular position in the area of nursing applicable to the education program.
• Qualified applicants will be considered first for specialty positions. If there are no qualified applicants, training lines will be awarded to unqualified applicants and training will be provided

Qualifications

• Registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives a practicing RN registrant.
• Minimum two (2) years medical/surgical experience and/or Post Diploma Certificate in Critical Care and/or Emergency Nursing and/or equivalent combination of experience and training. Applicants without formal Emergency/Critical Care Training and/or equivalent experience will be expected to enroll in an Emergency or Critical Care Course within 6 months of receiving the job.
• CPR (Basic Life Support) certification.
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification or willingness to complete within 1 year.

Skills and Abilities:
• Ability to manage all equipment appropriate for the provision of care for patients admitted to the critical care and acute care units.
• Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
• Ability to deal with others effectively.
• Ability to work well on own with minimal supervision.
• Ability to assist in orientation of new personnel.
• Ability to organize and prioritize work.
