Position Summary

Northern Health is looking for an experienced, highly efficient, and self-directed casual Administrative Assistant to support the Kitimat Administration department.

Reporting to the Director/Executive Lead or designate, the Administrative Assistant provides confidential administrative assistance and secretarial support to the Director/Executive Lead or designate and programs/services throughout the applicable Health Service Delivery Area (HSDA)/Region or Corporate Department of Northern Health (NH). Triages information of a sensitive and confidential nature, coordinates the flow of information, ensuring accurate and timely delivery of administrative services, and keeps the Director/Executive lead or designate apprised of issues and activities. Interacts primarily with director/managers and their administrative support staff throughout the HSDA/Region and across NH to professionally represent the Director’s/Executive Lead interests, share information, clarify details and answer questions. Works independently and communicates with internal and external stakeholders/customers in a manner that promotes positive and respectful relationships.

The hourly rate for this position is between $24.86 to $31.07 per hour, and will be based on education, training, experience of similar positions.

Kitimat General Hospital and Health Centre is a 20-bed Acute Care unit including 2 maternity beds. It integrates Acute Care, residential care, public health and community care in one facility. The services include:

• Outpatient Community Chemotherapy clinic
• Regional Orthopaedic Centre
• Regional Palliative Care Nurse consultant

Kitimat Set in a beautiful and natural ocean, mountain and valley paradise, Kitimat is located on the Douglas Channel just a few miles off British Columbia’s inside passage. Kitimat was built in the 1950’s and is one of BC’s youngest coastal communities. Main industries include an aluminum smelter, a pulp and paper mill and a petrochemical manufacturer. The population of Kitimat is approximately 8,236. The community has three elementary schools, two secondary schools, and one post-secondary school. Qualifications

• Graduation from a recognized administrative assistant/secretarial post-secondary program plus three
• (3) years of senior administrative support experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Must have advanced word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, desktop publishing, and database software skills and the ability to type a minimum of 60 w.p.m.

• Liaises in a professional and courteous manner with managers/directors, staff and the public to
• gather and disseminate information.
• Communicates in a compelling, clear and understandable manner (both verbally and in writing).
• Applies excellent time management skills to prioritize and complete assignments in a manner that optimizes departmental effectiveness and contributes to organizational success.
• Practices care and thoroughness when maintaining, monitoring, calculating and summarizing data, records and budget information.
• Collaborates with peers to ensure administrative systems and processes are consistently followed
• and monitored for effectiveness and that gaps are addressed and resolved when identified.
• Employs expertise in the use of desktop computer applications to create a variety of documents and presentations.
