Position Summary

The Occupational Health Nurse & Safety Advisor supports the development, implementation, maintenance and improvement of employee health programs in Northern Health. This position coordinates and/or delivers a variety of health promotion, injury, illness, and disease prevention services to NH employees in collaboration with Workplace Health and Safety team members, NH departments and external partners such as the Workplace Health Call Centre, WorkSafe BC (WSBC), BC Center for Disease Control (BCCDC), and the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) to support Northern Health’s mission, vision and strategic directives.
 
Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing and practicing member of CRNBC;
- Diploma in OHN, Public Health Nursing, or Infection Control preferred;
- Current certification of BCCDC immunization;
- Three (3) years of experience in nursing with preference given to candidates with experience in occupational health nursing, Public Health, or Infection Control Nursing;
- Or an equivalent combination of experience and education.

- Demonstrated knowledge of occupational health nursing and safety principles.
- Ability to analyze and problem solve.
- Demonstrated teaching skills utilizing adult education principles.
- Ability to communicate effectively utilizing a variety of communication vehicles.
- Ability to work independently and as a peer leader.
- Ability to work within an environment subject to continuously changing priorities.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, plan, implement, organize and prioritize workload.
- Demonstrated understanding of communicable disease nursing.
- Demonstrated proficiency in the use of a personal computer and applicable software applications.
- Working knowledge of applicable WCA and BC OHS Regulations, nursing practice, BCCDC, and PHAC guidelines.
- Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
- A valid driver’s license and willingness to schedule occasional travel.
